Fatal Accident at Irish Glass Bottle Construction Site: HSA Investigation Underway (2026)

A tragic event has unfolded at the Irish Glass Bottle construction site, prompting an immediate investigation. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is now on the scene, meticulously examining the circumstances surrounding a 'fatal incident' that occurred on Friday afternoon at the Dublin site. Emergency services and Gardaí were also present, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Construction group Sisk, responsible for the initial phase of the project, confirmed their awareness of the incident, stating they are currently investigating and will provide updates as information becomes available. The HSA has also launched its own investigation, and, understandably, is withholding further details at this time.

This construction site, located on the Poolbeg Peninsula, is part of a larger development spearheaded by Consortium Pembroke Beach, which includes Johnny Ronan’s Ronan Group Real Estate (RGRE), US private-equity firm Oaktree, and development company Lioncor. The project aims to transform approximately 15 hectares of former industrial land into a residential-led scheme. The plans include up to 3,800 apartments, along with community and office spaces. The first 570 homes are nearing completion.

But here's where it gets controversial: Workplace safety is always a primary concern, and this incident underscores the risks inherent in the construction industry. A Garda spokesman confirmed the ongoing nature of the incident, stating that no further information could be released at this time.

And this is the part most people miss: According to the HSA, there have been 32 fatal workplace injuries in Ireland this year as of September 22nd. The construction sector accounted for five of these fatalities, while more than half of the incidents occurred in agriculture, forestry, and fishing. There were also five workplace fatalities in the construction sector in 2024, representing a 50 percent decrease compared to the 10 deaths in 2023. Between 2015 and 2024, a total of 92 fatalities have occurred due to workplace injuries in Irish construction.
