Tamannaah Bhatia Cast as Jayashree in V. Shantaram Biopic | Indian Cinema's Golden Era (2026)

Get ready for a cinematic journey like no other! We're thrilled to announce that the talented Tamannaah Bhatia, known for her stellar performance in "Baahubali," is stepping into the shoes of the legendary actor Jayashree in the highly anticipated biopic "V. Shantaram."

But here's where it gets controversial...

Jayashree, an accomplished actress in her own right, was also the second wife of the iconic filmmaker V. Shantaram. And this is the part most people miss: her role in his cinematic journey was pivotal.

The first-look poster of Bhatia as Jayashree is a sight to behold. Draped in a vintage pink Nauvari saree, she exudes the charm and grace of the golden age of Indian cinema. This casting decision follows the recent reveal of Siddhant Chaturvedi in the title role, bringing to life the epic story of Shantaram's rise from the silent era to becoming one of India's most influential filmmakers.

In her own words, Bhatia shares, "Portraying a character from one of the most influential eras of our cinema is a great responsibility. I am honored to breathe life into Jayashree, an actress who was part of legendary projects and possessed an otherworldly grace. Decoding Shantaram's universe has given me a glimpse into the brilliance of the man behind the legend."

V. Shantaram, born Shantaram Rajaram Vankudre in 1901, was a true pioneer of Indian cinema. His career, spanning nearly seven decades, saw him found two major film studios and direct the first Marathi-language talkie. His films, such as "Duniya Na Mane," "Do Aankhen Barah Haath," "Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje," and "Navrang," were not just technical marvels but also progressive social statements addressing issues like communal harmony and dowry.

"V. Shantaram," written and directed by Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande, is presented by Rajkamal Enterttainment, Camera Take Films, and Roaring Rivers Productions. Rahul Kiran Shantaram, Subhash Kale, and Sarita Ashwin Varde are the producers of this ambitious project.

Are you excited for this biopic? Do you think it will do justice to the life and legacy of V. Shantaram? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
